Tax increases didn’t grow the economy. The Dot Com boom was responsible for the growth in the economy coupled with a relatively peaceful Presidential tenure (to the extent that Clinton had no problems ignoring the genocide in Rwanda).

Under President Clinton’s very prosperous eight years in office and his very wise DEMAND-SIDE approach to our economy, the wealthy paid 39% in taxes (which is what the expired Bush/Cheney/GOP tax cuts for the wealthy will be returned to once they are allowed to expire), and everyone, including those wealthy elites, benefited. This whole fake "war on taxes" thing set up as a propaganda tool by the Republicans in the 1990s (Newt Gingrich leading the smear campaign) is also a war on Walter Reed Hospital repairs, on infrastructure (like our highways, bridges, and tunnels) repairs, on our public school system, on Social Security, on Medicare and Medicaid, on public defenders, on national parks, on the VA medical system as a whole, on our military, on our public libraries, and on any other services to which Americans have become so accustomed that they take these things for granted. Paying taxes is doing our fair share to keep this great nation strong and safe, so why the heck shouldn’t the wealthiest—the ones who have benefitted the most—be part of this "doing their fair share" component of American life?

You fool…it was spending cuts that save the economy during Clinton. The tech bubble busting through us into a recession. Now think about this…..If Clinton was projecting a surplus, then that means the government had too much of OUR money. They should never have a savings account. That money is not theirs, it belongs to the people. When you raise taxes you are taking from the people.
